Otumoetai College Robotics Team

Page Macrae Engineering believe in supporting our local youth and encouraging them to strive to succeed.  Aside from this, innovation is close to our heart, which is why our Managing Director, Ian Macrae, has taken a personal interest in not only sponsoring this group of boys but following their achievements too.

The Otumoetai College Robotics Team was formed in June 2010.  In less than 2 years the team have developed from total novices to being currently ranked 3rd equal in the World!

In their first National Championships in April 2011, the Otumoetai A team were proud recipients of the AMAZE Award, which was judged by the competition organisers.  This award recognised the robot that clearly demonstrated a solid mechanical design along with demonstrated robot programming, robustness, strong performance and consistency. This was a huge achievement for a “rookie” team.  Both the A and B teams then qualified for the VEX Robotics World Cup which was held in October 2011 at “The Cloud” on Auckland’s waterfront in conjunction with the Rugby World Cup.

The 2012 Robotics World Championships took place April in Anaheim, Los Angeles, USA. The 400 high school grade teams were split into 4 Divisions of 100 teams. OATS Vexmen were in the 3rd ranked alliance going into quarter finals and went unbeaten through the best of 3 quarter finals and semi-finals, finsihing 3rd equal in the World.  What an amazing achievement! Congratulations boys!

Bay of Plenty Steamers Rugby Team

Page Macrae Engineering have sponsored since 2008

The Steamers are the flagship team of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union.  Bay of Plenty's top team were the inaugral winners of the first ever NPC in 1976 - and in 2004 recorded their first ever Ranfurly Shield victory with a momentous defeat of Auckland at Eden Park. The same year saw the Bay reach the semifinals of the Air NZ NPC, losing to an All Black-laden Canterbury - but still finishing a creditable third in the competition.

Super 12 Players who learnt to play in Bay of Plenty have cropped up all over the country- but in recent times the Chiefs have picked up several players for the Bay - with currently around a dozen players regularly playing in Super 12 squads- and a few more in wider training groups and development. As keen rugby supporters, Page Macrae Engineering are proud sponsors of the Bay of Plenty Steamers by being a part of the "Back of the Jersey" club sponsoring Jersey number 4, being one of the locks in the squad.
